So, i cant deal with this triumph reliability. I used to do almost 30K miles a year. I dont know if I did 5K this year. I will not stand for this.
Here are my potential options:
2012 Honda CBR 1000RR fireblade ABS. 20th ani edition.
pros: Honda reliability
175HP stock
ABS (big one)
cons: its 30lbs more then the GSX-R.
dash is a bit boring
its the ‘boring’ liter bike
more expensive running costs? 190 rear tire...and heavier on fuel
And in the RED corner,
2014 Suzuki GSXR 750 R 50th anniversery edition
pros:
that red
lighter, better handling bike
little bit cheaper to buy (1K)
cons:
no ABS
seems like everyone and their dog has a GSXR 750 around me..I can literally count 5 friends who have one.
While suzuki reliability is nothing to sneeze at, it wont top the honda I think
down 25 HP to the honda.
thoughts? I feel like the added ABS on the CBR is swaying me that way...the fact that it would have an exhaust on it already helps it...

Motorcycles have ABS? Buy the faster one.

I feel like a GSX-R 1000 would be a better comparison. But if you’re going that big, you may as well just get a ‘Busa, brah. It’s just a little bit more.
Between those two, I'll take the one that can stop from the stupid speeds without killing me.

I’d say buy the one with more safety features, but then that sort of logic quickly results in just buying a convertible and saying close enough, so I’m not sure it’s really sound (at least if you are trying to buy a motorcycle).

and the rizla colors, I’m sorry, are the WORST colors I have ever seen. plus the red of the 50th anni is SO nice

30 pounds isn't that much. It's definitely less than 25 hp. Advantage Honda.

I don’t really love either one, tbh . Liter bikes are so fast that I’d want the best brakes and suspension and traction control I could get, and the CBR does not have those things. The GSX-R looks nice in that red, but it’s got no ABS and the rest of the bike is kind of ehhh imo. And riding a Gixxer means that mohawk helmets and GoPros are what passes for ATGATT.

ther CBR did have the BPF showa and 1/2 decent nissins.
same forks on the GSXr, but it gets brembo calipers.
TCS can be added through
a Bazzaz....but..eh? I like the CBR because it apparently
easy to ride...
GSXR I found was GREAt on the street in terms
of suspension tuning...but if they have the same forks, I should be able to get the
CBR to match./..

CBR! One liter and resale should be better.

I’ve never cared about resale. I’m buying the bike to ride. not to resell.

Everything is easy to ride until you lose control.
I think you just want a big brother for your CBR250RR. You’re turning to the Honda side. If you got the GSXR750, you’d always be regretting not getting the CBR, the liter bike you want.
I almost stole an Aprilia RSV4 I saw parked at the beach yesterday. There's a sport bike I'd die on. Die for. Die on....

ABS, TCS, Wheelie control, power modes, active suspension..
its amazing
what happen when you look at modern machines.
hell, BMWs wheelie control
would hold the wheelie at X angle for ya...just old the go-handle wide open, the computer does the rest (cheating IMO)

That’s what you get for following Triumphs.
Another 75 hp is needed so that you can pass them at 12 o'clock, give em a little wave and disappear.

I almost fell asleep just looking at the pictures.
Hear me out. Get something like the above for soulless fun and nice roads and maybe for eating up the miles . Get something with soul that gets you revved up just thinking about it (848?) For when you want to treat yourself.
You have a dedicated track bike, right? You don’t need 150hp+. Especially on a bike that weighs 350-450lbs. 120-130 is plenty.
The fact that you're quibbling over 25hp and 30lbs at that performance level tells me that neither of those bikes gets you excited. What a bike does for you can't be measured on the spec sheet.

I’m the guy that likes something different, so if five of my friends had one thing, I’d choose another. That being said, I’m also not one to torture myself with something uncomfortable. Which one makes your wrists, butt, and back happy? It’s hard to go fast if all you can think about is the discomfort. Of course, safety is always a good thing to think about. Sure, you’re riding a motorcycle-not exactly a “safe” activity - but the computerized nannies can help if you get a little out of sorts and can’t save it on your own.
Just some things to consider.

The “being different) is EXACTLY why i boguht the daytona in the first place and look where it landed me LOL.
I’m looking at supersports, they wont be comfortable. I have my CBF1000 for that.
That being said, this would replace a daytona 675, arguably one of THE most uncomfortable 600 class bikes.
bob and john
> DipodomysDeserti
08/17/2019 at 10:59 | 1 |
TCS is a nice thing to have on something overpowered...the active suspession, on a touring/st bike, sure.
it gets a bit silly sometimes. KTM’s dashboard syncs to your phone for GPS and will tell you who is calling you and you can answer it through the bike controls.
like I said. gets a bit silly.

Cool things can be found for cheap with some effort. I don’t know what things go for where you are, but I found the average cost of what you’re looking at to be around $6-7k US (I know you’re in Canada though) in my city. Assumed that for your budget, and looked for things around half that. But at that point the hard part is finding something with ABS. There’s a sweet 80's CBR1000 here that’s easily in your price range, pair something like that with a Bonneville? I don’t know.
Then again I was half asleep when I was perusing craigslist and had just watched fast and furious 6 (working through the serious over the last week). That combination is basically fuel for bad ideas.
It was two and a half. Cylinders kept getting damaged during shipping from Italy. So much sad. I’m just fortunate I’m in a place where I could afford another.

its not the thing that I will have issues buyig,
its the insurance
costs. My daytona is 1800 a year insurance.
also, I have 2 90s hondas already. For my daily bike, i’m not buying anything older then 2010

Makes sense. I talk shit on the fancy new safety controls, but having slid through intersections trying to avoid inattentive drivers, it’s something I’d definitely find useful.
I’m bike shopping right now, and while I know I should get something new ler and practical, the shitbag in me is being drawn to old piece of shit Harleys that are just begging to be built into trackers.

I don't know why but I was assuming all the rest of your bikes were SV's. How many bikes in your fleet now? Are they all insured? If there's overlap, what if you downsized?

honestly, I’ve gathered you know your way around bikes...
keep the CL, and have that as your funky toy.
Get something modern with FI and ABS as a rider. Retro looking thing. W800. SV650 (I think you had one) Z900RS. Its nice to be able to just turn key and go.

current stable is:
2008 CBF1000 (touring/dad bikes)
1992 CBR250RR (my classic/collect
able)
1994 VFR 750 (dads classic/collectable...that i’m building/restoring for him)
2006 Daytona 675 (track bike, being sold)
2010 Daytona 675 (track bike, bought for motor originally, being sold)
2011 Daytona 675 (blue street machine, you know the story)
All three daytonas would go and be replaced with one of the above and something (likely an R6) for the track. I MIGHT keep the 2010 for the track...but I’m not sure yet

So the CL had a little timing chain mishap and has been down all summer. The pistons and valves look good, but the cams are out of synch. Was gonna try an re-synch them without pulling the head, but I think I’m just going to rebuild the engine with go fast bits with one of the STEM classes I teach. That’s why I’m looking for Another bike to ride.
I did find a clean 2001 ZR1200 with the retro Eddie Lawson paint scheme. Modern enough with a retro feel. I know I should just get another SV.

welcome to ontario my friend.
my 250 is ALSO 1800 a year (old and rare) the cbf is 900 a year.
(oh, and the daytona is under my dads name. if I wanted to have it in my name, it would have been 3500 a year...now you get it?)

Eh, CBR. If it’s for street duty the extra weight might give it a smoother ride. And 25 extra ponies never hurt nobody.

Myself it’ll depend on what it’s used for. If only for weekend rides, then GSXR750. But as a more everyday ride, CBR1000RR every time. The extra weight is like nothing, but it adds to the stability and cushyness on the road.
Running costs near enough the same between them that the difference is not that bad, insurance including.
